The west side of Chesterfield runs out along Chatsworth Road towards the Peak District. It's where a lot of families end up, because you get a proper town on one side and the moors fifteen minutes the other way.

The place

Chatsworth Road is the spine of it. A long, busy high street of independent shops, cafés, pubs and takeaways, heading west out of Brampton towards Baslow.

Either side of it you've got Brampton, Walton, Somersall, Ashgate and Loundsley Green, each with its own feel. The town centre, with its market and the famous crooked spire, is a few minutes away.

The homes

Everything from Victorian terraces close to town and around Chatsworth Road, to inter-war semis, 1960s and 70s family estates, and larger detached houses in Walton and Somersall.

That's why the median looks modest. There are a lot of good-value terraces in the mix. Walton's detached homes sell for a great deal more, and the bands below show the spread.

Worth knowing

Chesterfield station puts Sheffield a short train ride away and London St Pancras about two hours. The A619 takes you straight out to Baslow and Chatsworth.

School catchments matter a lot on this side of town. Check them with Derbyshire County Council before you fall for a house.
