Walton is one of Chesterfield's most popular family areas. Bigger gardens, quieter roads, good schools close by, and the countryside towards Holymoorside starting at the end of the street.

The place

Mostly 20th-century suburbs on the south-west side of town, with Somersall next door and the town centre a few minutes away. Walton Road and Somersall Lane are the main routes through.

It's quiet, settled and very much a place people move to for the long term. Many buyers come here from elsewhere in Chesterfield when they need more room.

The homes

Detached homes are the biggest share of sales, followed by semis. Terraces and flats are rare. That's why the typical price here is well above the Chesterfield average.

Holymoor Road, heading out towards Holymoorside, is where the larger houses sell. Woodcote Way and Walton Road see the most sales. Walgrove Road is one of the more affordable streets.

Worth knowing

Brookfield Community School is on this side of town, and school catchments make a real difference to prices on some streets. Check admissions with Derbyshire County Council before you fall for a house.
