Dronfield is the town halfway between Chesterfield and Sheffield, and a favourite with people who work in Sheffield but want a bit more space and a Derbyshire address. The station is the big draw.

The place

The old town centre, along the River Drone, has stone buildings, pubs and the Peel Monument. Around it, the town grew fast in the 1960s and 70s with big estates at Dronfield Woodhouse, Gosforth Valley and Coal Aston.

Dronfield station is on the line between Sheffield and Chesterfield, and the countryside starts at the edge of the estates to the west.

The homes

Detached homes and semis sell in roughly equal numbers, with fewer terraces and flats. Most are from the 1960s onwards, often with decent gardens.

Stonelow Road and Holmley Lane see the most sales. Stubley Lane and Longcroft Road are where larger homes sell for more.

Worth knowing

Dronfield is in North East Derbyshire, not Sheffield, so council tax and schools go through Derbyshire. Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School is the town's secondary.

The River Drone has a flood warning area through the town, so check the flood risk for homes on the lower ground near the river.
