Holymoorside sits about three miles west of Chesterfield, where the town gives up and the moorland starts. It's small enough that people know each other, and close enough to town that you don't feel cut off.
The place
The River Hipper runs through the village, and the roads out to the west climb straight up onto open moor. Most people who live here will tell you the walks are the reason they came.
It sits just outside the Peak District National Park, which matters if you ever want to extend. Planning goes through Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire, not the National Park Authority.
The homes
A real mix. Stone cottages and terraces in the older middle of the village, then semis, bungalows and family houses from the 1960s onwards, and a handful of larger detached homes and conversions on the lanes heading out towards the moor.
Holymoor Road is where most of the bigger family houses sell, and it shows in the prices. Loads Road and Gallery Lane are where you'll find the cottages and smaller homes.
Worth knowing
Not many homes come up. Around twenty a year sell here, so the good ones tend to go quickly and sometimes before they reach the portals. If you're serious about Holymoorside, tell an agent early.
