Somersall and Brookside sit on Chesterfield's western edge, where the houses give way to the Hipper valley and the road to Baslow. Big gardens, mature trees and some of the most expensive homes in town.

The place

The River Hipper runs through Somersall Park, with footpaths and small bridges along it. Brookside lies just beyond, along Chatsworth Road as it heads out of town towards Baslow and Chatsworth.

Brookfield Community School is on this side of town, and Holymoorside and the moors are a few minutes further west.

The homes

Detached homes are more than half of all sales, typically around £555,000. Semis usually sell for about £290,000. The flats and smaller homes along Chatsworth Road itself bring the overall typical price down to about £365,000.

Where to look

Holymoor Road and Westbrook Drive are where the most expensive homes sell, often for well over £550,000. Somersall Lane, quiet and tree-lined, is close behind at around £540,000.

Brookside Glen and Somersall Park Road are good-sized family homes in the high £300,000s. Chatsworth Road is where to start.

The market

About 34 homes sell here a year, and around 12 of those go for £500,000 or more. A good share of Chesterfield's top end changes hands in these few streets.

Worth knowing

Somersall is in Chesterfield borough, so planning and council tax go through Chesterfield Borough Council. The lower ground near the River Hipper is in an Environment Agency flood warning area, so check the long-term flood risk for homes close to the river.
