The Whittingtons sit on the north side of Chesterfield, on the road towards Sheffield. Old Whittington is the historic village, New Whittington is up the hill, and Whittington Moor is the busy stretch on the town side.

The place

Revolution House in Old Whittington was the Cock and Pynot inn, where in 1688 a group of local nobles met to plan the overthrow of James II. It's a small museum now, and the reason the village turns up in history books.

Whittington Moor has the retail parks and the big roundabout that most of Chesterfield knows, with the A61 running straight up the valley to Sheffield.

The homes

Terraces and semis, with some of the lowest prices in the borough. High Street in Old Whittington sees the most sales. Handley Road and Tapton View Road are popular for family semis, and Aviemore Close is where the bigger detached homes sell.

For a first home, streets like Nelson Street and London Street have sold for well under £150,000.

Worth knowing

Whittington Green School is the local secondary. The Rother and the River Whitting both have Environment Agency flood warning areas here, especially towards Sheepbridge, so check flood risk for homes in the valley bottom.
